Victoria Pilate grew up in Florida and currently resides in
Maryland. She received undergraduate degrees in business
administration and economics from Florida A&M University
(magna cum laude). Pilate received a master’s degree from
Howard University in 1992. She earned a Ph.D. in policy
sciences from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in
2003. Dr. Pilate was an economist and later a statistician for the
federal government for 15 years in Washington, D.C.
Victoria Pilate has released two nonfiction books. Dorm Rooms
to Boardrooms provides advice on making the transition from
college to the work world. It has received favorable reviews in
newspaper book reviews as well as from college career
professionals and academic leaders including Fisk University
President Hazel O'Leary.
Victoria Pilate is a member of the Southeast Association of
Colleges and Employers, the Southern Association of College
Student Affairs, the UMBC Alumni Association, and Sigma Beta
Delta. In 2007 she was named to the Business Executives
Advisory Council of the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore's
School of Business and Technology. In December 2009 she was
named a Distinguished Black Woman for 2010 by Black Women
in Sisterhood and Action, Inc. She participates in various
charitable organizations including founding her own
foundation, the Torment of Thirst Foundation.
